Bob Bertelsen founded A Plus Powder Coaters, Inc. in June of 1996. It all started in April 1996 when he had a need for some powder coating on a car he was building. When he found no one in the area could do his job in a timely manner, he decided to investigate the powder coating process. He spent most of April and May learning all he could about powder coating. It was during this time he was introduced to PCI (Powder Coating Institute). A Plus Powder Coaters, Inc. has been a member in good standing since 1996 and Bob now serves on their Custom Coater’s Steering Committee. In June of 1996, he incorporated A Plus Powder Coaters, Inc. and started the process of building our first building and system.

The first building was 75 feet wide and 150 feet long at 11,250 sq. ft. In March 1997 we started production with a conveyor system for larger production runs and a batch system for smaller runs and prototypes. We have expanded 7 times since we started and now have more than 60,000 square feet facility located on 6 acres in Columbiana Ohio. A Plus Powder Coaters, Inc. added our first 15ft. x 30ft. blast room in 2005 and has since added a second blast booth of the same size. We have expanded into packaging and light assembly work over the years.

Bob Bertelsen- President/CEO

Bob founded the company in 1996. His main job is to set vision and plan for the future. He designs and builds most of the equipment and also works on plant efficiencies. Bob is very active in his church. He has been married to the same woman for over 30 wonderful years, and has 3 grown daughters. He enjoys building and racing classic muscle cars (see Cars in navigation) in his spare time.


Terry Watson- Sales Manager

Terry has been with the company since 1998. He first was a shop supervisor, then in 2000 transferred into sales. He has been a great asset to the company and is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to powder coating. He currently serves as chairman of the Certification Committee for the Powder Coatings Institute. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and church. He also has a passion for helping people with their finances and leads Financial Peace classes on a regular basis. Terry is married and has 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren. He is an avid deer hunter and fisherman, who fishes many local bass tournaments every year.


Nick Sukosd- Production Manager

Nick joined the company in 2013. He has been a fast study in powder technology. He originally was hired to be both the quality manager and assist in providing quoting. He has since moved to Production Manager and heads up our Human Resources. Nick schedules all production and keeping customers in the loop on their product. Nick is married and has a son. He is an avid musician, skilled in playing many instruments.


Wayne Morris- Quality Manager

Wayne came on board in 2017. Wayne had actually worked for A Plus when he was 19 as a powder sprayer. After leaving, he became certified in quality control. In 2017, we expanded our positions to include a Quality Manage, which Wayne returned to A Plus to fill. He is married and has 3 children. In his spare time he helps at his church and works on cars.


Heather Reilly- Office Manager

Heather joined the company in 2019. She is responsible for accounts payable and accounts receivable. She is extremely good at keeping the paper work straight, which keeps the company on track. She and her husband love to entertain and spend quality time with family and friends. In addition to taking a ride on their motorcycle, she also enjoys travelling and reading a good book with her dog Marley curled up by her side.


Melanie Sprouse- Administrative Assistant

Melanie came on board in 2016. She does all the data entry, schedules any shipping needed, and assists customers and vendors. Because of her exceptional phone personality, Melanie also answers the phone. She is married and has 3 grown children and 2 grandchildren. She enjoys walking her dog with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren.
